In 2023, we founded DSTOR, a startup using AI to help web3 developers offer advanced search and personalized recommendations. Unfortunately, we will be shutting down the platform this month.

Thank you to everyone who used DSTOR, our team members, and investors who made this journey possible.

What began as a personal search engine created to find content in favorite Web3 apps grew over 2023 & 2024, however as a business failed to reach broad product/market fit for three main reasons:

  1. Market Readiness: Although our early adopters were enthusiastic, the broader market wasn't ready. The number of web3 apps with sufficiently valuable on-chain data is growing but not yet sustainable for our business.

  2. Monetization Strategy: We didn't monetize early enough or in a way that resonated universally with our users. Customer discovery and surveys supported our subscription approach, but the broader market preference for tokenization lead to missed opportunities.

  3. Rapidly Evolving Space: The blockchain space is highly volatile, compounding the complexity of development sprints both technically as well as strategically with the shifting consensus on decentralization vs. performance. Many cycles were lost on effort spent working potential deals that fell through due to these macro changes or on updating existing functionality for compatibility.

The transition process will be ongoing throughout August 2024, with final end date of August 31, 2024. New signups and engine creation are now disabled and pages will redirect to the home page as they are switched off. All active user APIs will be active until the final end date. Any users that did not receive emailed instructions can reach out to team@dstor.io for assistance.

As part of the transition, we will be making the DSTOR codebase open-source on our Github page in an effort to support future builders.
